Controlling Anger
Anger or temper, whenever it flares up, everything explodes. Below are some of the ways I want to share with you regardless controlling anger or temper from personal experience. Deliberately calm myself down: Anger is usually driven by sudden strong emotions of hatred and disillusionment. To prevent the manifestation of anger, I deliberately calm myself by physically and mentally telling myself to calm down. Believe it or not, it works for me. Then, I would take a step back to re-evaluate the situation then deliberately rephrase the words that are about to come out of my mouth into something politically correct if I am speaking to another person. In this way, anger is usually dissipated and the message that I want to get across is more likely to be digested and accepted by the receiving party. Apologise: Apologising to the other party is also another way that works to control anger. Firstly, just before mine or the other party's anger were to flare up, I would apologise to the other party sincerely. And, the keyword is SINCERELY. That's very important. If an apology is not deemed sincere enough or even sincere at all, it is definitely going to make the situation worse. Anyway, it takes two hands to clap. A conflict wouldn't just happen if there were only one person. Acknowledge that I may or may not be the cause of unhappiness. Apologise and then go to a quiet room to calm down, re-evaluate the situation and approach the other party again. Forgive my own wrongdoings: Anger sometimes occur due to one's inability or unwillingness to forgive himself or herself for the mistakes that he or she has done. To elminiate this anger, I simply tell myself that this mistake is a lesson learnt and I will make up for my mistake by not repeating it. By doing so, I will stop to feel angry with myself and accept the current situation. Hope some of these ways to control anger helps you too. May you have a satisfying and anger-free life!
